06About
A digital civic space, not a feed.
Oppspot is a prototype built for a UNESCO Youth Hackathon on Media and Information Literacy. It proposes one idea: opportunity and verification belong in the same place.
01Impact
The questions a jury should ask
- Who benefits?
- Young people and students — especially those without a family network that can vouch for whether an opportunity is real.
- Why now?
- Opportunities, news, advertising, AI-generated media and scams all arrive through the same feed, formatted to look alike.
- What makes Oppspot different?
- Opportunity discovery is combined with verification education, student connection and gamified media literacy in one environment.
- Can it work globally?
- The platform is digital, multilingual-ready and built around media literacy skills that transfer across every media system.
- How can it grow?
- Through educational institutions, youth organisations, verified opportunity providers and international classroom collaborations.
Oppspot makes no claims about outcomes it has not measured. This is a prototype with demonstration data; the impact case rests on the design, not on invented statistics.
02Accessibility
Designed to be usable first
Contrast and colour
Colour is never the only signal — every status carries an icon and a word alongside it.
Keyboard and focus
Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard with a visible focus ring, including the network map.
Motion control
A motion toggle in the header disables animation, and the system reduced-motion setting is respected automatically.
Text size
A text-size control scales the whole interface without breaking any layout.
Structure
One main landmark per page, one H1, labelled regions and descriptive alternative text for the map.
Language
Short sentences, no jargon, and explanations written for a reader meeting the topic for the first time.
03Safety and honesty
What this prototype is — and is not
It is
- A working front-end prototype with realistic demonstration data.
- A demonstration of how verification can be taught rather than asserted.
- Structured so opportunities, trust reports, profiles and scores can move to a real database.
It is not
- Connected to any real organisation, register or verification service.
- A claim that any named body has endorsed or checked this content.
- A guarantee about any opportunity — trust scores describe evidence, not certainty.
